WEEKEND MEDICAL

EVANGELISM TRAINING

Congratulations to all of our March 2010 New York-based Medical Missionary Training  graduates!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How important is Medical Evangelism?

a. It helps us to follow the example of Christ, the Greatest Medical Missionary.

Christ, the great Medical Missionary, is our example. Of Him it is written that He “went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people,” Matthew 4:23. He healed the sick and preached the gospel. In His service, healing and teaching were linked closely together. Today they are not to be separated (Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 170).  In Matthew 9:38, He challenges us to pray that God would send forth laborers to do the same work that He did – medical missionary work.

b. It relieves suffering and purifies the church.

“The work of health reform is the Lord’s means for lessening suffering in our world and for purifying His church.”  (Testimonies, vol. 9, pp. 112, 113)

c. It prepares a people for Christ’s return.

“As he thus instructs the people in the principles of true temperance, and as a guardian of souls gives advice to those who are mentally and physically diseased, the physician is acting his part in the great work of making ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Counsels on Health, p.336)

d. It points people to Jesus, the Great Physician.

“We should ever remember that the object of the medical missionary work is to point sin-sick men and women to the Man of Calvary, who taketh away the sin of the world.” (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 458)

e. It makes ministers twice as effective in ministry.

“A gospel minister will be twice as successful in his work if he understands how to treat disease... A minister of the gospel who is also a medical missionary, who can cure physical ailments, is a much more efficient worker than one who cannot do this… (Medical Ministry, p. 245) My heart is made sad as I look at our churches, which ought to be connected in heart and soul and practice with the medical missionary work . . . I wish to tell you that soon there will be no work done in ministerial lines but medical missionary work.”  (Counsels on Health, p. 533)

f. It is the most effective instrument for planting the seed and reaping a harvest.

“When connected with other lines of gospel effort, medical missionary work is a most effective instrument by which the ground is prepared for the sowing of the seeds of truth, and the instrument also by which the harvest is reaped.” (Medical Ministry, p. 240)

g. It opens doors.

“The right hand is used to open doors through which the body may find entrance. This is the part the medical missionary work is to act. It is to largely prepare the way for the reception of the truth for this time... Therefore the body which treats indifferently the right hand, refusing its aid, is able to accomplish nothing.” (Ministry of Healing, p. 238) “Nothing will open doors for the truth like evangelistic medical missionary work.”(Evangelism, p. 513)

h. It should be a part of the work of every church.

The medical missionary work should be a part of the work of every church in our land.  The gospel ministry is needed to give permanence and stability to the medical missionary work; and the ministry needs the medical missionary work to demonstrate the practical working of the gospel. Neither part of the work is complete without the other.” (Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 289)

Every church a training center-- Is your church one?

“Every church should be a training school for Christian workers. Its members should be taught how to give Bible readings, how to conduct and teach Sabbath-school classes, how best to help the poor and to care for the sick, how to work for the unconverted. There should be schools of health, cooking schools, and classes in various lines of Christian help work. There should not only be teaching, but actual work under experienced instructors.” (Ministry of Healing, p. 149)

“Every city is to be entered by workers trained to do medical missionary work. As the right hand of the third angel's message, God's methods of treating disease will open doors for the entrance of present truth.” (Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 59)

i. It removes prejudice and increases influence.

Much of the prejudice that prevents the truth of the third angel's message from reaching the hearts of the people might be removed if more attention were given to health reform. When people become interested in this subject, the way is often prepared for the entrance of other truths. If they see that we are intelligent with regard to health, they will be more ready to believe that we are sound in Bible doctrines. (Counsels and Diets and Foods, p. 76)

2. What is the purpose of the Weekend Training?

The purpose of this training is to train and equip members and pastors to do systematic Health Evangelism.  This is an intentional effort to fulfill the medical missionary mandate that God has given to His church through His servant. “The Medical Missionary work should be a part of the work in every church. Every city should be entered by workers trained to do medical missionary work.” (Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 289; Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 59)

“Many have no faith in God and have lost confidence in man. But they appreciate acts of sympathy and helpfulness. As they see one with no inducement of earthly praise or compensation come into their homes, ministering to the sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, comforting the sad, and tenderly pointing all to Him of whose love and pity the human worker is but the messenger--as they see this, their hearts are touched. Gratitude springs up. Faith is kindled. They see that God cares for them, and they are prepared to listen as His word is opened.”  (Ministry of Healing, p.145)

                        EVEN SO COME LORD JESUS

“For years the Lord has been calling the attention of His people to health reform. This is one of the great branches of the work of preparation for the coming of the Son of Man.” (Counsels on Diet and Foods, P.70)

Remember with God all things are possible. Where God guides He provides.

“If your intention is clear, the way will appear.”
